In Des Moines' biggest - or at the very least most rocking - festivals, Given 2 Fly makes their Iowa debut. Thanks to circumstances that played in the favor of G2F the band will grace the stage at a massive annual block party that will also feature Motley Crue, GnR and Ramones tribute acts. It's big, it's crazy and it only happens once a year in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

NEW WEB FEATURE

There are significant advances in technologies within the web development community and no one is as close to that as Given 2 Fly's own Kurt Stone. When not jamming PJ tunes for the masses Kurt spends hours being a geek behind the radiation-permeating monitor attached to one of his 3 computers building and deploying web, cd and interactive software solutions. It's this geekiness that is promising to take the official Given 2 Fly web site in an advanced direction in terms of layout and functionality. One word of caution: slow connections need to be wary that with the new technologies being used it may be high time to upgrade to the 21st century level of Internet connectivity. Regardless, here's a preview of the collage image gallery custom built by Kurt. Initial load times will vary depending on user config but subsequent refreshes will expedite page load dramatically.

There's no doubt been idle speculation regarding the absence of audio tracks from Given 2 Fly on the offical web site. The plain and simple truth is that the band has never fully been able to capture good enough samples from the live shows - that is, until now. So without further ado, feel free to peruse the audio section of the Given 2 Fly web site for an occasionally changing assortment of live audio tracks recorded for your listening and downloading pleasure.

A story that is all too familiar to each of us these days is the terrible and tragic shooting of innocent students and in particular the one that occurred this past week at Northern Illinois University. This campus was close to us in many ways because in a previous life we all played to crowds of wonderful and vibrant NIU students and were just beginning discussions on when we would return to perform for one of our favorite schools. When any life is taken it saddens us but sometimes the story just hits a bit closer to home. We mourn greatly the loss of life and the injury both physical and emotional that took place that cold February day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to every person affected by this tragedy that has become one American trend we should all fight to put an end to.

A new section to the web site has been added - Scrapbook. It's accessible from the home page and offers a glimpse into the goings on of Given 2 Fly and the fans that we've come to so greatly admire. The five of us are just now beginning what we hope to be a long and fruitful journey - one of turning people on to what we know as the 'Pearl Jam buzz'. We're in the process of booking more shows and fans will be privvy to this information as soon as it becomes more tangible. As always thanks for your support.

This pending Tuesday, February 5th, provides many of us the opportunity to vote for who we would most prefer to be a part of the pending 2008 presidential election. It's a privilege that is still not shared by many countries in this world and we can't emphasize enough how terribly important this election is. With our daily lives it's easy to forget we're still very much involved in a war thousands of miles from here that has cost us lives, money and credibility among many world nations. Our economy is far from stable and issues like health care, education and security permeate nearly every family and home. We urge each and every one of you to locate your voting station and utilize your given right to choose the person that best represents you and also the collective interests of this nation - which is key.

Without reason or notice a great talent left this planet just 2 days ago - leaving behind a beautiful daughter, grief-stricken family members, friends and fans. So it is without judgement or speculation and only regret that we reflect the sad news of actor and artist Heath Ledger's passing. While most of us will remember his face, voice and activities largely based on the motion pictures he played a part of, others closer will remember a father, a son, a brother, a relative, a friend and more - but, above all, a human being who brought something into a world much needing 'something'.

We've got Eddie Vedder's first solo video, Guaranteed, from the motion picture Into The Wild. Eddie, in fact, does the whole soundtrack and that's available now. It features material based on Ed's take on the story of a man who gives everything to charity, leaves society as most of us know it behind and heads into the wilderness of Alaska. It's an amazing and true story, written by Jon Krakauer, and brought to life by Sean Penn who wrote the screenplay and directed the film. The soundtrack features Ed playing all instruments and nine original tunes and two cover songs.

Given 2 Fly is pleased to announce the first gig of the year 2008 and the first gig for the band that consists of members with a long history of making Pearl Jam music and performing together. The Original Mother's on Division Street in Chicago will play host to Given 2 Fly on Friday, February 1, 2008. Mother's has been a little known secret live venue serving as 2nd home to both original and cover bands from the region for quite some time. It's a downstairs room with ample space and decent sound system accommodations. This is a headline show with the show beginning at 9 p.m. Mother's is located at 26 W. Division in Chicago.

The world was given a talented musician, a critical song writer, a proponent of truth and an incredibly amazing soul who still stirs the imagination and hopes of millions of fans worldwide with his outlook and message on the state of affairs both personal and public, relevant and timeless. BHUTTO ASSINATION

It is with deep regret that we share more bad news about the state of affairs in Pakistan. This is yet the latest in a series of events that has this amazing country screaming for both cultural and political change. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, was assassinated Thursday (December 27, 2007) in Rawalpindi at a rally. Bhutto was the first female prime minister of Pakistan and of any Islamic nation. She led Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Benazir Bhutto and with the people of Pakistan.

VEDDER WALKS HARD

Eddie Vedder has a small role as himself in the new hit comedy "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story". The movie features Chicago native, John C. Reilly, starring in the lead as a musician that experiences and endures nearly every American (and British) stepping-stone-cum-tribulation that's been documented. A big part of those historical landmarks in musical history revolved around drugs, so, as expected, Dewey Cox partakes of more than his fair share of those along the way. Eddie has his moment near the end as he presents Dewey with an award. It's all good fun and a movie that may help brighten your spirits this holiday season.
